SLOKA OF THE MONTH- MARCH 2013
“ Naathmana Kamakaarosthi Purushoayam Aneeshwaraha
Ithaschetharathaschenam kruthanthaha parikarshathi
Sarve kshayantha nichayaha pathanaanthaha samuthchrayaha
Samyoga Viprayogaantha maranantham thu Jeevitham
Nandanthyuditha Aadithye Nandanthyasthamithe Ravou
Aathmano
Naavabhudyanthe Manushya Jeevithakshayam”
Ayodhyakandam explains the sacrifice of
SriRama. His sacrifice is for the sake
of truth.he was contended just by his sacrifice. Even though he lost his kingdom,
he was happy in the thought that he did not go against dharma. Rama went to the
forest. Bharatha came tro him crying and weeping bitterly. Sri Rama was calm
and composed. Bharatha felt great peace on seeing Rama who was His guru too. He
requested Rama to accept the kingdom again. Sri Rama refused.
He consoled Bharatha and told him the intricacies of
Dharama. In this world none can achieve whatever he wishes. It is God’s will and not by our will. The
life of a human is short-lived. All creations are in fact perishable. That
which has a beginning has an end too. One who climbs up has to come down
too. Those who unite too have to part
too. Life is also temporary. Death might come at 30 or at 70.. In the
womb, or in an accident, or at the hospital or of old age one might die. Before
one’s end one has to use his life purposefully.. Indeed the birth as a human is
a precious gift. It is a human who can follow dharma. Hence one should try to
follow dharma and attain the feet of the Lord.

KSHETRA FOR THE MONTH OF MARCH 2013
PULLAMBHUTHAMKUDI
There was a prajapathi by name Arishtanemi He had two wives.
They were Vinatha and Kadru. Vinatha gave birth to Arunan and Garuda. Kadru’s
children were the snakes. Arunan’s sons were Sampathi and Jatayu. Arunan was
the charioteer of the Sun God. Jatayu and Sampathi wanted to see their father
and flew up in the skies. Jatayu could
not bear the heat. Sampathi protected him with his wings. Unfortunately
Sampathi’s wings burnt in the heat and he fainted. He fell on top of the
Vindhya ranges. Jatayu fell into the forests of dandakaaranya.. A sage by name
Nishakara said Sampath’s wings would grow again if he served Rama by his
speech. It was then that Ravana abducted Seetha. Jatayu fought a fierce battle with Ravana but
alas he chopped of Jatayu’s wings with his sword by name Chandrahaasa. Rama went in search of Sita. He saw Jatayu
dying. Yet Jatayu held his breath to bless Rama. He said “ My Dear Rama. Dont
you worry. You will get back your lost Sita and the kingdom too. He died on the
divine lap of the Lord. Then Rama did Brahmameda samskara for Jatayu. After
this incident Sugriva sakhya took place. In gratitude towards Rama for having
won him back the Kishkinda Rajya Sugriva sent a huge army of vanaras in search
of Sita. Hanuman gave Rama the news of Sita’s finding. He started towards Lanka. When he crossed the river Cauvery he thought of Jatayu and wanted to a
full fledged Sraddham. ( Anna sraadhdham). He thought of Sita for one needs his
wife for the pithrukaarya. Sita came out from his Vakshasthala and cooked the
food for the sraadham. Rama rested for a while there. That place became a punyakshetra. It was called pakshiBhuthapuram alias
PullamBhuthangkudi. It is near Kumbakonam at the banks of river Cauvery. It is
equivalent to Gaya. Those who do
sraadham( rituals for ancestors) here will beget progeny by
Rama’s grace.

SLOKA OF THE MONTH- FEB 2013
“ Subhagaschithrakootosou Girirajopamo Girihi
Yasmin Vasathi kakuthsthaha Kubera Iva Nandane”
All characters in Srimad Ramayana are ideal personalities.
Bharatha’s bhakthi is unparalleled. In separation devotion grows. For 12 full
years Bharatha awaited Rama’s darshan in Kekaya desha. After 12 years of
separation from Rama when Bharatha returned to Ayodhya he was all the more
vexed to see Ayodhya devoid of Rama. He was shocked. Dasaratha was dead and
Rama was banished to the forest for no fault of his.. kaikeyi was brain washed.
Rama’s coronation had stopped. All people were in despair. At this point of
time Vasishta asked Bharatha to accept the crown of Ayodhya. Bharatha was in
utter despair. Am I a greedy miser, or an unrighteous person? Did I ever want
to usurp the throne. I will atonce go to the forest and see Rama. I will pacify
him and coronate him then and there. Those who wish can come with me, “ he
said. All citizens of Ayodhya were enthusiastic about it. They left with
Bharatha.
Bharatha left
Ayodhya with Shatrugna, Vasishta, Kousalya and other queens and along with a
huge battalion. Having crossed Ganga, seen Bharadwaja, he went in search of
Rama.. Bharaha ran literally wanting to see Rama. At this stage Bharatha says
these words “ This Chitrakoota which
shines like the Himalayas is really fortunate. It is here that Sri Rama lives
like Kubera residing in the Nandanavana.
Subhaga: It is fortunate for Chitrakoota to have pleased
Rama because in his entire exile Rama felt the happiest here.
kubera Iva: Kubera is great not because he has wealth but
because he shares wealth. So is rama great because he has given the entire
Ayodhya to Bharatha.

KSHETRA FOR THE MONTH OF FEBRUARY 2013
SRIMUSHNAM
There is a beautiful kshetra called SriMushnam. There the
Lord resides as Varahamurthy. He resued Bhumidevi who was immersed in
Pralayajalam. It was then that Bhumi Devi said to the Lord: “What is the way to
rescue the souls ( jeevan) immersed in the ocean of materialism. The Lord then
says “ Just as an elephant takes a lotus out of the mud so do I take a jeevan
from the mud of misery. Finally when the
soul is to depart I give my darshan to that being, bestow him with wisdom and
liberate him from this material world. I take several forms as archa ( deities)
in various kshetras and shower my compassion on those ignorant beings too. Out
of these there are 8 swayamvyaktha kshetras ( not made by a sculptor but of its
own). Such kshetras are Salagramam, Naimisharanyam, Pushkaram, Vanamamalai,
Tirumalai, Srirangam, Kanchi, SriMushnam etc.
Bhodevi asks then “ Out of these Swayamvyaktha kshetras
which one is the best?”
The Lord Says “ Sri Mushnam is one kshetra where I reside
completely pleased along with Sri and Bhu Devi. I resued you who are Sri from
the pralaya waters. Hence the name SriMushnam. Hiranyaksha came to take you
away from the pralaya waters. I killed him and saved you. Here I live at the
banks of Nithyapushkarani under the ashwaththavruuksha. This forest is known by
the name Jillikavanam at the banks of Shwethanadhi.
Jillika was the daughter of Hiranyakshan. Here she did
penance at the banks of Shwethanadhi. Brahma also blessed her. She asked for a
brave son who would instil fear in the mind of Devas. His name was Dandaka.
That Dandaka killed many sages at Dandakaranaya. Those sages
sought the refuge of the Lord. Since he bestowed the Sri- wealth of the
brahamanas this kshetra is known as SriMushnam. Then the sages did penance at
the banks of Nithyapushkarani. Varahamurthy then came out on His own accord
splitting the earth.. Those who see Varahamurthy here will never suffer in this
world.
