EVENT OF THE MONTH( MAY 2008)

SRIMAD BAGAVATA SAPTAHAM ,RAJAPALAYAM

Shri Hari Anna’s Bagavata Saaptaham at Rajapalayam from May 23rd to 29th was a grand event.Shri Arjuna Raja organized it with great sincerity and devotion. A huge gathering of devotees attended the lectures and enjoyed them. Sri Hari Anna commenced the sapthaham with the smaran of Sri Andal- lecturing on Andal for almost 20 minutes. He began “This place where we begin this sapthaham is sanctified by the lotus feet of Andal. Here at Rajapalayam the unchavrutti especially went on very well. It started at 8.45am and went on till 10.30am. The streets were filled with devotees rushing to put the akshadai. It was indeed an extra ordinary sight. After this event the Radha Kalyana Uthsavam was celebrated with great enthusiasm. Divyanama sankeerthanam for 2 days, Govinda Shathakam, ashtapadhi bhajan, Dolothsavam, Parayanam etc., went on a grand scale. Rajapalayam is a small town. A gathering of 300-400 devotees in such a place is indeed rare. It shows their dedication, devotion and sincerity. Sri Hari Anna also visited Srivilliputhur one day. He had a wonderful darshan of Andal there. As soon as he entered the sanctum-sanctorum the deeparadhana was being conducted. It was an extremely satisfying experience. It was scorching hot at Rajapalayam since it is the month of May. However suddenly it poured cats and dogs during Krishna Avatharam. It was too much to be a co-incidence. The whole place became extremely cool and pleasant.

KSHETRA FOR THE MONTH OF JUNE 2008
VARAHUR –VARAHAPURI

Varahur is a small village in the Tanjore district of Tamil nadu. It is famous for its Srinivasa temple. Lord Srinivasa appeared before Shri Narayana Theerthar as a swayamvyaktha murthy. Swayamvyaktha denotes that the murthy is not man –made (not made by any sculptor) but appears on his own will. Narayana Theerthar is a saint who was born in Andra Pradesh near mangalagiri(1675-1745).He took to sanyasa in his early years. Once while traveling southwards he was afflicted by a chronic stomach ache.On his visit to Tirupati-Lord Srinivasa spoke thus ”oh saint -May you go to Varahapuri where you will be cured of your illness”. Narayana Theerthar hence resumed his journey towards varahur. Nevertheless he did not know where this place was situated.

One day while he was performing his usual ablutions(rituals) a white pig came close to him, signaled to him and started running. He too ran after it taking up the signal .This pig hitherto ran into a house (streets of varahur). Narayana Theerthar requested them to dig at that place. As they started digging there, Lord appeared in his benevolent form along with Sri Devi and Bhu- Devi. In ecstasy Narayana Theerthar at once sang”jaya jaya Ramanatha ,jaya jaya Dharanatha,jaya jaya Varahapura Sri Venkatesa jaya jaya”. Narayana Theerthar built a lovely temple for the Lord and thenceforth composed the magnum –opus by the name”Krishna Leela Tharangini”.The saint wanted to sing and enact a dance-drama before the Lord.However there was a vehement opposition from Varahur Bhramins.They totally opposed a sanyasi dancing and singing. However Narayana Theerthar took up the challenge.He placed the Lord on one side.There was a curtain in between and the saint started singing”Balagopala Krishna”.Indeed everybody could hear the twinkling sound of the anklets of the Lord dancing on the other side.They at once understood the greatness of the saint and asked forgiveness of him.Varahur Srinivasa proved to the world the saint’s greatness. From thenceforth Gokulashtami utsavam was celebrated with the grand songs of the saint being sung and enacted.Even to day Varahur is famous for its uriyadi utsavam.Thus it is this Kshetra which bestowed health, fame and salvation to this great saint.

AAPADAMAPA HARTARAM –Sri Rama is a savoir from all disasters. He protected the devas from Ravana’s disasters .He relieved the Maharishis of Dandakaranya from the disastrous Rakshasas like Khara and Dushana.He shielded Sugriva from the dangerous Vaali.

DATARAM SARVASAMPADAAM- Sri Rama is the bestower of prosperity. He gave the kingdom of Ayodhya to Bharata. Kishkinda samrajya was restored to sugriva by him.Vibhishana obtained Lanka samrajya by Rama’s grace.Sri rama indeed gave Mathura samrajyam to Satrugna.

LOKABHIRAMAM SRIRAMAM-Sri Rama is the store house of unparallel beauty. The citizens of Mithila,Ayodhya,the rishis of Aranya and even animals and birds were captivated by Sri Rama’s enchanting beauty .They were lost in the bliss of his beauty.

I bow to sri rama who removes all disasters, bestows all prosperity and entices the whole world by his beauty.

RAMAYANA NAVAHAM,CHENNAI

Sri Hari Anna’s Srimad Ramayana pravachanam was celebrated grandly at Rathnagiriswarar temple ,Besant Nagar Chennai from April 3 to 11.Everyday almost 300 to 400 bhaktas’ participated. Sri Venkataramani, Sri Ramakrishnan and other committee members had made excellent arrangements.Hari Anna lectured on Sundara Kandam for 2 days in this Navaham. Day by day the crowd grew and on the day of Rama Pattabishekam almost 800 devotees had gathered.

RAMAYANA NAVAHAM ,MUMBAI
From April 16 to 24 Hari Anna’s Srimad Ramayana Pravachanam at Murugan temple, Chemboor, Mumbai went on in a grand scale. There was Parayanam in the mornings. It was nectar to the ears. In this navaham, Hari Anna lost himself in Ayodhya kandam. Ramayanam is beautiful how so ever delivered. This time Hari Anna lectured on Ayodhya kandam for four days and briefed on the other kandas. A huge gathering listened to his navaham.

SRISRIANNA – AN INTRODUCTION

SriKrishnapremi swamigal fondly called as SriAnna was born in Sanganallur, a small village in tamilnadu, India. Right from his early days he was a severe practioner of YogaSadhanas. This saint however wished to prove the world that the easiest way to attain the lotus feet of the Lord is nevertheless the path of Bhakthi. He revered SriBhagavanNama Bodendral as his Mansika Guru. He took to Srimad Bhagavatham as his pramana grantha [Authoritative treatise]. He founded a glorious sampradaya called PremikaSampradaya.[SriAnna is addressed as Premika].

SriBhakthaKolahalaKrishna is his Upasana deity. Paranur is a village near Villupuram. SriAnna built a wonderful temple for SriKolahalan in this small village. Thenceforth he started living there. He himself performed all the sevas to SriKolahalan right from Suprabhatham in the morning, the afternoon pooja, the evening rituals till dolothsavam in the night. Like SriThiyagaraja Swamigal who sang Utsava sampradaya keerthanas to his IshtaDaiva Lord Rama, SriAnna composed Uthsava krithis for the seva of SriKolahalan.[Suprabhatham to Dolothsavam]. Those Keerthanas are being sung till date during the pooja of the lord in Paranur. Besides this SriAnna has composed several Shathakas[A Shathaka consists of 100 Krithis] including 1. Raghava Shathakam 2. Radhika Shathakam 3. Yugala Shathakam 4. Govinda Shathakam 5. Ranga Shathakam etc. He has composed more than 1000 Krithis to date. It is definite that SriAnna visits Paranur every Ekadasi.There he follows `the Ekadasi Vratham in a strict manner, fasting, performing Abhishekam to Kolahalan, Pravachanam in the evening and Divyanama Sankeerthanam in the night. Gokulasthtami Utsavam is a grand affair in Paranur with 1000’s of devotees participating, Bhakthi overflowing through the streets. Navarathri Utsavam, Vasanthothsavam, SriRamanavami Utsavam, Keerthanavali utsavam, Thepothsavam are the othert festivals celebrated grandly at Paranur.

SriAnna has also established a VedaPatashala at Paranur. There is also a Goshala beautifully maintained by him. These have been established by a trust founded by him. The trust is named “SriKrishnapremi Swamigal Baghavatha Dharmam trust”. This trust is run exclusively by the efforts of SriAnna.

THE SPREAD OF BHAKTHI THROUGHOUT INDIA:

SriAnna wished to spread awareness about the importance of Bhakthi in the minds of the people of India. Hence he toured throughout the length and breadth of India from Kanyakumari to the Himalayas many times. He gave discourses on several topics in several cities including Srimad Bhagavatham, Srimad Ramayanam, Mahabharatham, Bhakthavijayam, Bhagavath Geetha, Azhwargal vaibhavam, Upanishads etc. He is an ocean of knowledge – a reservoir of wisdom. There is in fact no topic not dealt by him. He also founded and established an association called “Akhila Bharatha Sadhu Sangham” throughout India in several cities. The objectives of this institution are

Spread the awareness of “ The Greatness of the divine name – NamaPracharam”
To conduct Bhavatham, Ramayana discourses.
Renovation of DivyaDesa temples etc.

Akhila Bharatha Sadhu Sangam functions in Chennai, Bangalore, Mumbai, Delhi, Tirunelvelli, Madurai, Pondicherry etc.

OTHER ESTABLISHMENTS: {ASHRAMS}

PREMA MADHURI KUNJAM – BRINDAVANAM, MATHURA, UP

SriAnna holds Brindavanam very close to his hearts. Hence he built an Ashram called PremaMadhuriKunjam in RadhaNivas, Goranagar colony, Brindavanam. Here he built an exquisite temple for SriRadhaVamsidhara Krishna. Here too like paranur the rituals take place according to Premika Sampradaya [ Suprabhatham to Dolothsavam]. The main festivals celebrated here are Radhasthtami, Rasothsavam, Holy, and RadhaKalyanam. Every year SriAnna visits Brindavanam four times for these Uthsavams.

KOORATHAZWAR BHAJANASHRAMAM, ALAGAR KOVIL, MADURAI

This Ashram is at Alagar kovil, Madurai. This picturesque Ashram captivates the heart of every viewer. The natural beauty of this Ashram with the green mountains behind it and flowers of various hues is the apt place for meditating on the lotus feet of the lord. Every Chithra Pournami Lord Alagar comes to this Ashram to the delight of several devotees. SriAnna conducts a Sapthaham during this time. This Ashram is being goverened by Akhila Bharatha Sadhu Sangam, Madurai.

KRISHNASURI BHAJANASHRAMAM, MELKOTE

Melkote is a kshetram near Mysore, Karnataka. SwamiRamanauja retrieved the deity of this kshetram from the Delhi Badshah, after great efforts. Here again a beautiful ashram has been established. Chellapillai - as the deity is popularly known as, comes to this ashram in every July. This ashram is maintained by Akila Bharatha Sadhusangam Bangalore.

PANDURANGAN TEMPLE, THIRUCHANANALLUR

There lived a saint by name Krishnasuri in Thiruchanganallur [Chenganur]. It is he who is called Periyavachanpillai in tamil. He has commented on the entire 4000 Divyaprabhandhams. SriAnna incarnated in his vamsa. Periyavachanpillai had earlier constructed a temple for Lord Srinivasa. SriAnna too has built a small but beautiful temple for Pandurangan in this village. Besides this he has constructed a Mutt for PeriyavachanPillai. Periyavachanpillai too was born on a Avani Rohini incidentally SriAnna too was born on a AvaniRohini[Rohini star – Tamil month of Avani]. Hence on that day there is a procession of Periyavachanpillai to that Mutt built by SriAnna. Also every year it is routine that on January 26^th the KalyanaUtsavam of LordSrinivas and Panduranga are conducted.

SRISRIANNA’S WORKS:

SriAnna has written innumerable works in Sanskrit. To my knowledge after Valmiki and Vyasa he is the only person to write 40,000 slokas. Some of the important works are SriVaishnavaSamhita, Divyadesa Vaibhavam, Brindavana Mahatmiyam etc.He also has written works in various languages such as tamil, telgu, marati and the like. He also runs a monthly tamil magazine called BagavathaDharmam.

BRAHMASABHA:

SriAnna established an association called Bramhasabha to spread BagavathaDharmam throughtout the whole world. Bhajans, Parayans, Pravachans etc are being conducted at USA, Dubai etc by Bramhasabha members.
