If an act is done in anticipation of its fruits it does not
bestow on us a pure mind. It will on the other hand tie us in this samsaara. It
will give us only limited fruits. That is the reason why the Lord advised us
KarmaYoga. Karma Yoga is nothing but doing an act without expecting its fruits.
If we perform an act with the thought that it would please God, and if we
surrender its fruits to the Lord with the intention of service it is called
Karma Yoga. Thus he will not get tied up to Karma again and again. We take
medicines so that we may be relievd of it one day. Similarly we do karma so
that we may be relieved of it one day. This will give us chiththa shuddi,
wisdom, and ultimately liberation.
Srimad Ramayana gives us the example of Sage Sharabhangar. If we conduct yagas like Ashwamedha we can
attain swargam. If one follows brahmacharyam he can attain brahmaloka. It was
time for Sharbhangar to attain Swarga. Indra was waiting for him with his
vimana. But Rama was coming to meet him. Sharabhangar knew that Rama was God. Hence he
decided to surrender the fruits of his karma at the feet of Rama. If he went
with Indra to enjoy his karma he had to come back to samsara. Hence it was
better to make it karmayoga.
As soon as Rama
came to trhe ashram of Sharabhangar he
offered his karmaphala at His feet. Sri Rama accepted it. Hence he attained
liberation at the sannidhi of Sri Rama.
