SLOKA FOR THE MONTH-MAY 2012

Yavatha Chitrakootasya Naraha Srungaanyave Kshathe

Kalyaanani Samadhatte na pape kuruthe manaha

The world is filled with nations of different sizes, cultures and traditions. But nowhere in the world can we see a nation like India. India is a repository of sacred temples and rivers. The kshetra mahathmyam of Srirangam says if a man passes by Srirangam even on his official visit all his sins are lost when he comes out of Srirangam. So is Chitrakoota. It is beautiful hilltop. Mandakini flows gently through it. Its greenery and serenity is overwhelming. Maharishis do penance there. Sri Rama built an ashram waiting for Bharatha at Chitrakoota. Chitrakootam was very pleasing to Rama. In this sloka Valmiki explains Chitrakoota’s beauty. The hill at Chitrakoota is called Kamadagiri. Kamadagiri means that which grants all the wishes. One who sees the top of this hill attains all prosperity and he never indulges in any kind of sin.
