KSHETRA FOR THE MONTH OF AUGUST 2012

                                                                     THIRUKOTTIYUR

Everybody knows that there was a wicked asura by name Hiranyakashipu who harassed all sadhus. The Devas, Kinnaras, Gandharvas, Sidhdhas, Vidyadaras, Kimpurushas, Garudas, Nagas, Pithrus assembled together at a place as a goshti( group) and thought about the destruction of Hiranyakashipu. Hence this kshetra was thenceforth called Thirukottiyur. ( Goshteepuram).
It was then that SowmyaNarayanan said I will incarnate as Narasimhamurthy and destroy this evil asura.
This place has another significance. There was a king called Purooravachakravarthy of Chandravamsha who ruled the nation as a dharmic ruler. It was at this time that Urvashi of swargaloka was cursed by Indra and came to earth, lived with Purooravachakravarthy. She had a condition: As long as this goat ( pointing to the goat) lives with you I shall live with you”, she said. Indra was freed from rancour and ordered the Devas to bring back Urvashi. One of the devas secretly took away the goat and Urvashi vanished. Puroorava was almost mad with lust. He mediatated upon Urvashi all the time and went in search of her. At a particular place ( at Kurukshetra) he saw Urvashi bathing in the Suryapushkarni and begged her to come along with him. She said if he wanted her he had to do a sacrifice and pray to the Lord that you may attain me in swargaloka.. The king did so, went to the devaloka and lived with Urvashi. But this too was temporary. As soon as his punya was over he had to be born again on earth. He incidentally met a sage called Kadamba muni who told him”  All worlds attained through karma are temporary. But Vaikunta is not obtained through karma. Even if you enjoy this bhuloka for years together , you will not be satisfied. What is there to enjoy in a body which is nothing but an assembly of skin, muscles, blood, bonesetc. Go to Thirukottiyur, worship SowmyaNaryanan, get freed from lust and attin his feet. Thus the king did as advised and attined Vaikunta.

Those who come to this kshetra will be freed from mental illness, physical illness, lust and other diseases of the heart..
