SLOKA FOR THE MONTH OF JUNE 2014
“ Karthaaramapi lokanaam shooram karunavedinam
Agyaanadavamanyeran Sarvabhuthani Lakshmana
Mrudum Lokahithe Yuktham Daantham karunavedinam
Nirveerya Ithi Manyanthe Nunam Maam Thridasheshwaraaha
Naashayami Jagathsarvam Thrailokyam Sacharacharam
Yavathdarshanamasyaa vai thapayami cha saayakaihi”
Srimad Ramayana has
predominantly Karunya rasa ruling through it. Out of all the rasas Srungara
rasa is the best. In this kavya too karunya rasa in ancillary to Sringaara
rasa. Throughout the Aranya kanda Rama is in tears. His tears are for Seetha.
Hence karunya rasa becomes ancillary to Sringara.
The Lord is
full of compassion. He showers love. The Lord will not be able to bear the
sorrow of His devotees.. The Lord cries for His devotees’ sorrow. The Lord then
takes all efforts to solve His devotees’ problems. This is shown and proven in
the Aranya kanda. Ravana abducts Seetha and Rama cries for Seetha. He searches
for her throughout the forest. He questions the vanadevathas, nadidevathas,,
the mountains. He questions even Surya, Vayu and other sakshath devathas
reagarding Seetha. But the Devathas did not answer for fear of Ravana.. Now
Rama gets angry. He now shines like Rudra during pralaya kaala. He roars at
Lakshmana. “Though Iam the Lord of all Lords, the creator of all the worlds,
Omnipotent and efficient Iam not respected because I have shown my prowess.
They think Iam a futile warrior because Iam soft and gentle. If ordinary people
think so it would be bearable. Even the devathas think so. This world exists
for dharma and not for adharma.. Where there is no place for Dharma I would
better destroy this world. Bring my Kodanda”, he yells at Lakshmana.
Immediately Lakshmana falls at Rama’s feet and surrenders,
pacifying him.
