SLOKA OF THE MONTH- FEB 2013

“ Subhagaschithrakootosou Girirajopamo Girihi
Yasmin Vasathi kakuthsthaha Kubera Iva Nandane”

All characters in Srimad Ramayana are ideal personalities. Bharatha’s bhakthi is unparalleled. In separation devotion grows. For 12 full years Bharatha awaited Rama’s darshan in Kekaya desha. After 12 years of separation from Rama when Bharatha returned to Ayodhya he was all the more vexed to see Ayodhya devoid of Rama. He was shocked. Dasaratha was dead and Rama was banished to the forest for no fault of his.. kaikeyi was brain washed. Rama’s coronation had stopped. All people were in despair. At this point of time Vasishta asked Bharatha to accept the crown of Ayodhya. Bharatha was in utter despair. Am I a greedy miser, or an unrighteous person? Did I ever want to usurp the throne. I will atonce go to the forest and see Rama. I will pacify him and coronate him then and there. Those who wish can come with me, “ he said. All citizens of Ayodhya were enthusiastic about it. They left with Bharatha.
Bharatha left Ayodhya with Shatrugna, Vasishta, Kousalya and other queens and along with a huge battalion. Having crossed Ganga, seen Bharadwaja, he went in search of Rama.. Bharaha ran literally wanting to see Rama. At this stage Bharatha says these words “   This Chitrakoota which shines like the Himalayas is really fortunate. It is here that Sri Rama lives like Kubera residing in the Nandanavana.
Subhaga: It is fortunate for Chitrakoota to have pleased Rama because in his entire exile Rama felt the happiest here.
kubera Iva: Kubera is great not because he has wealth but because he shares wealth. So is rama great because he has given the entire Ayodhya to Bharatha.
