Patience is the ornament of the sadhus. Sri Rama is as
patient as the earth( BhumiDevi). Sita was also very patient for almost 10
months in the Asokavanam. If an inefficient person is tolerant there is nothing
surprising in it. An efficient person being tolerant is a great thing indeed.
The rishis at Dandakaavanam had the strength to burn the rakshasa. Yet they
showed patience and tolerance. They awaited Rama’s arrival. They didn’t want to
savethemselves. They expected Rama to protect them. As sson as Rama entered the
Dandaka forest the rishis surrendered at him. They welcomed Rama into the
ashram. They offered him flowers, fruits and poornakumbha. They were elated.
With folded hands they prayed to him. They did not think of Rama as a prince.
They saw him as God. Hence instead of blessing Rama they prayed with folded
hands “ You are our refuge. Whether you are at the forest or at Ayodhya you are
our protector. Just as a mother protects the foetus in her womb so may you
protect us who have surrendered at your feet.
